The former fishing town of Middelharnis is situated on the southern banks of the former sea-arm the Haringvliet, in the south-Holland delta and in the centre of Energy Island Goeree-Overflakke.
A beautiful village with a picturesque old harbour. The skimming arena is in the center of the village, in the oldest part of the harbour. 100 Years ago Middelharnis was home to a large fleet of beugsloepen, a fast and beautiful type of sailing fishing vessel. The beugsloepen were built and maintained at the Menheerse Werf, a shipyard from 1750. This old shipyard is now being turned into a touristic attraction and it is this weekend home to the fourth European Stoneskimming Championships.
